A 2): Yes. GM provides the broadest, largest, most value-driven customer confidence package in the industry, including:

  • 5 year / 160,000 km* powertrain limited warranty
  • 5 year / 160,000 km* roadside assistance
  • 5 year / 160,000 km* courtesy transportation
  • No deductible
  • Fully-transferable
  • Industry-leading safety technology such as OnStar® and StabiliTrak™

Q 3): What is the difference between the GM 160,000 km Powertrain Warranty and my original warranty coverage?

A 3): Your bumper to bumper New Vehicle Limited Warranty remains in effect; 4 years / 80,000 km (whichever comes first) for Buick, Cadillac, HUMMER and Saab; and 3 years / 60,000 km (whichever comes first) for Chevrolet, GMC, Pontiac and Saturn.

For 2008 light duty vehicles, the GM 160,000 km Powertrain Warranty expands the powertrain coverage on your base warranty up to 160,000 km or 5 years from the original delivery date (whichever comes first).

Q 4): What does Roadside Assistance cover on light duty vehicles?

A 4): Roadside Assistance provides you with the safety and security of emergency services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. These services include towing, fuel delivery, lock out service, flat tire change and jump start. See an Owner Manual for additional details.

Q 5): What does Courtesy Transportation cover on light duty vehicles?

A 5): Whenever warranty repairs are required, several transportation options and/or reimbursement of certain transportation expenses are available for your convenience at participating dealers and retailers.

Q 6): Are Medium Duty Trucks included in the GM 160,000 km Powertrain Warranty?

A 6): No. This powertrain warranty enhancement is only available on GM light duty vehicles. However, GM Medium Duty Trucks have comprehensive warranty coverage in place and we're presently introducing Roadside Assistance and Courtesy Transportation coverage on Medium Duty vehicles to run commensurate with their base vehicle warranty.

Q 7): Are light duty Fleet deliveries included in the GM 160,000 km Powertrain Warranty?

A 7): Yes, with the exception of certain vehicles that are upfitted or created for special applications, such as limousine, hearse, and livery vehicles, which have warranties specific to these applications.

Q 8): GM sells several types of light duty chassis for use in applications such as ambulances, recreational vehicles and buses; are these vehicles included?

A 8): Yes. But it is important to note that GM warrants the chassis, while the manufacturers who build on the chassis, provide separate warranties of their own for their components.

Q 9): I noticed that the GM 160,000 km Powertrain Warranty on my new 2008 Tahoe is transferable at no charge. How does a customer transfer the warranty?

A 9): There is no transfer required. Regardless of ownership, the powertrain warranty stays with your 2008 GM light duty vehicle. In addition, regardless of owner, you also receive the many benefits of our Roadside Assistance and Courtesy Transportation programs for 160,000 km or 5 years (whichever comes first).

Q 10): Do I have to take my vehicle to a GM dealer for maintenance to maintain my extended powertrain eligibility?

A 10): We highly recommend that you maintain your vehicle at a GM dealership as they have the specialized training and genuine GM parts and accessories for your vehicle. In addition, we encourage you to keep detailed records and receipts of your maintenance history. Although you aren't required to have your vehicle maintained at a GM dealership, naturally, warranty repairs must be performed at an authorized GM dealership.

Q 11): Does the required maintenance of my vehicle change as a result of the GM 160,000 km Powertrain Warranty?

A 11): As a vehicle owner, you are responsible for the performance of the scheduled maintenance listed in your Owner Manual throughout the warranty period. Your Owner Manual provides a detailed maintenance schedule that you should follow for your specific vehicle and driving habits. In addition, we strongly encourage you to keep detailed records and receipts of your maintenance history.
