The history of the dealership begins in 1972:
The dealership was established at its present location in 1972 under the name of Targa Motor Cars Ltd. It was purchased by Barrie Brown in
1975. For the period 1972 to 1990 the dealership marketed Volkswagen and BMW products and provided service and parts for the two brands. In 1990 Barrie Brown
acquired a GMC franchise selling
GMC trucks and
Pontiac and
Buick cars under the current business name. At that time a substantial expansion of our buildings was carried out which was
necessary to facilitate a larger service and parts department.
However, being one of Vancouver Island's leading car dealers is not enough: community involvement is very important to us. Over the years Barrie
Brown Pontiac Buick GMC Ltd. has been actively involved in sponsoring:
We feel the Food Bank provides a very necessary service in the
Campbell River community. We are very pleased to provide whatever assistance we
can to make it a successful operation, which it continues to be on an ongoing basis; therefore, we are honoured to provide a truck free of charge enabling the
Food Bank to pick up supplies with a reliable vehicle.
